Shouldn't Throw Stones: The View of a Night Watchman

by Kevin Casey - £14.99  Lens Based Media (2018)
paperback    ISBN 13: 9781789260823 | ISBN 10: 1789260825

Shouldn't Throw Stones: The View of a Night Watchman is a body of work undertaken by photographer Kevin Casey, who has taken a job as a Night Watchman at the former Head Quarters of what was once an industrial powerhouse, Pilkington Glass. The modernist, 32 acre complex (now called Alexandria Business Park) houses a number of charities and SME's who use the site for office space and storage, However, the majority of the site, its buildings, landscape and vast array of basements, tunnels and workshops are a reminder of the building's former glory, with evidence of artefacts left behind when the building was previously vacated.

The photography documents the role of a night worker, the recovery of discarded artefacts and it is also a reflection of the decline of UK industry. The creation of the work also highlights the struggle for creative practitioners to survive in today's climate.

Shouldn't Throw Stones tells the story of an uncertain future, tense present and a captivating past.
